Jed Peterson Files Brief in State v. Avila-Nava

On August 11, 2014, Senior Associate Jed Peterson filed the Respondent’s Brief on the Merits with the Oregon Supreme Court in State of Oregon v. Celso Avila-Nava. The Court of Appeals published an opinion agreeing with Mr. Avila-Nava’s argument that he unequivocally invoked his right to remain silent when he said, “I won’t answer any questions.” State v. Avila-Nava, 257 Or App 364, 306 P3d 752 (2013). The Supreme Court granted the state’s petition for review. Oral argument is scheduled for September 15, 2014.
